|DAY TWO: GBA a creditable third in both Championship groups|
Day Two at the Under 14 State Winter Championship saw our teams performing especially well against strong competition from across the winter leagues.
In its three Sunday games in DIVISION ONE, Geelong Red atoned for its first day loss against Ringwood Gold with a tenacious win before thumping Diamond Valley and coming up short against Dandenong – which went through the series undefeated. Posting its first win in DIVISION TWO in a high-scoring clash against Latrobe Valley, Geelong Blue defeated Ringwood Green in the afternoon playoff to decide minor placings.
Both Geelong sides finished in third placing overall. A fantastic effort, especially given that the GBA opted to spread its talent across two teams in an effort to give more of our youngsters an opportunity to participate at this level. Well done, all!
Congratulations to the winners – Dandenong in Division One and Sunraysia in Division Two. And a special mention for Cooper Rickard (Geelong Red) and Darcy Wilson (Geelong Blue), who were named as Most Valuable Player for their respective teams. Well done, lads!
|DAY ONE: Mixed fortunes for GBA sides|
Fielding two teams at the Under 14 Winter Championship, Geelong Red had a big win over Diamond Valley in DIVISION ONE, but was beaten easily by a strong Ringwood Gold side before finishing the day with a narrow loss to Dandenong, the undefeated tournament favourite.
Although winless in DIVISION TWO, Geelong Blue played out a high-scoring draw against Bendigo, was beaten clearly by Sunraysia and pushed Ringwood Green right to the wire.
Geelong Baseball Association is pleased to announce the following two squads that will contest the Under 14 Winter Championship to be held at Knox over 16 and 17 July.
The tournament has drawn nine teams from around the state, across two groups.
Geelong Red has drawn in Division One and will play against Dandenong, Ringwood Gold and Diamond Valley. The series will be a double round robin, with the highest placed team declared the winner.
Geelong Blue has drawn in Division Two and will play teams from Latrobe Valley, Sunraysia, Ringwood Green and Bendigo. This series will be a single round robin, with first and second-placed teams playing off for the championship and third playing fourth for the minor placings.
