Under 12 Winter Championship 2015

DAY TWO:     Despite a disappointment at the end, the Geelong representative team had a wonderful Day Two at the Under 12 State Winter Championship, coming up just one run short of downing eventual winner Dandenong.

Entering the second day with a 1-2 winning record, the Geelong youngsters reversed their Saturday result with a strong 12-7 win over Ringwood Black, followed by an entertaining 13-10 triumph over Sunraysia before playing out a final-game thriller against Dandenong – which edged home 8-7 to take the Division One title.

Entering the series with what Head Coach Chris Rickard fondly described as "a tiny team", Geelong acquitted itself exceptionally well to finish third overall against bigger and more experienced players from the Melbourne leagues.

"We were still in it until that final game," Chris Rickard said. "We would have had to beat Dandenong by eleven or twelve runs to win the whole thing, but we were still so close to finishing second."

"The kids were great the whole weekend," he said. "Our pitchers were terrific in difficult conditions and we hit well all through the order. Special mention should be made of Most Valuable Player Noah Brennan and Hayden Peoples - who also played exceptionally well - but I am just so proud of the whole group."

Congratulations to Dandenong, which continues its recent dominance of the winter championships. Very well done to the GBA squad, which represented the league with such distinction and should be justifiably proud of the way the kids conducted themselves and enjoyed their baseball.

DAY ONE:     Having another terrific winter at all representative levels, Dandenong is undefeated in Division One of the State Under 12 Championship, while Geelong had one convincing win and lost another game by a run before being overpowered by the DBA.

Starting Day One with a narrow 9-10 loss to Sunraysia, Geelong rebounded for an impressive 11-5 result over Sunraysia but was unable to contain a Dandenong offence that scored early runs and was never really threatened. With a second round-robin to be played on Sunday, an enthusiastic GBA side will be looking to enjoy the remainder of the series and continue playing competitive baseball

DIVISION ONE STANDINGS AFTER DAY ONE:   Dandenong (three wins, no losses), Ringwood Black (2-1), Geelong (1-2), Sunraysia (0-3)

Bendigo has posted two strong wins, while Latrobe Valley edged out Ringwood Green in one of the closest games of the round.
