Under 16 Winter Championship 2015

DAY TWO

Geelong wound up its Winter Championship campaign in superb style with a 9-6 win over Ringwood Green in Mildura this afternoon. The result earned Geelong fifth placing in a very tough competition against Melbourne metropolitan players in many cases bigger and far more experienced.

Entering Day Two with one win from three, the challenges were no less daunting and the GBA dropped both of its morning games to Diamond Valley (2-12) and to Sunraysia (5-12) to place it the playoff for fifth.

Far from being dispirited by the earlier losses, the GBA boys came out firing and finished in the strongest possible manner against Ringwood Green – who had beaten a mighty Dandenong side on the Sunday morning.

Very well done to the players and coaching staff on representing Geelong Baseball Association with class and distinction at this elite under-aged event. Congratulations to Eugene Gay, who was named as Most Valuable Player for the Geelong team. Congratulations, of course, to Ringwood Black – the eventual winner – and to all other teams selected to represent their respective winter leagues. See GBA FACEBOOK for images and feedback on the series.

Under-aged Winter Championships will continue with the Under 14 event to be hosted by Dandenong Baseball Association over the weekend of 18 and 19 July.

FINAL PLACINGS AFTER THE ROUND ROBIN:   Ringwood Black (4-1), Dandenong (3-2), Sunraysia (3-2), Diamond Valley (3-2), Ringwood Green (1-4), Geelong (1-4).

DAY ONE

A couple of tough outings for the GBA against some quality metropolitan opposition on Day One of the Under 16 Winter Championship being held in Mildura.

Rebounding from a first-up 0-13 loss to Dandenong - one of the tournament favourites - the Geelong side pinched an 8-7 result over Ringwood Green before a third-round 0-11 whitewash at the hands of Ringwood Black.

The side will face Diamond Valley and Sunraysia in Sunday morning games prior to play-off games in the afternoon. Thanks to the fantastic support of coaches and parents accompanying the squad, you can follow team progress on GBA Facebook.

STANDINGS AFTER DAY ONE:   Ringwood Black (three wins, no losses), Dandenong (2-1), Sunraysia (2-1), Diamond Valley (1-2), Geelong (1-2), Ringwood Green (0-3).
